BEACH HORSE RIDES

Have an unforgettable experience while exploring the coastal reserve from horseback and have a gallop or trot along our private beach next to the waves of the Indian Ocean. This activity always goes out with one of our experienced guides and we have various horses, which are even suitable for first-timers or children. (Maximum 8 guests)

BEACH DUNE SAFARI

Enjoy a once in a lifetime experience on our beach dune safari vehicle through our coastal reserve and dunes, with our dedicated guide who will tell you all about the reserve and the natural surroundings. A stop will be arranged at a lookout point with snacks and a drink (included). Available every day. Speak to our guide for optional extras. (Maximum 10 guests, 5 guests per vehicle)

DUNE PICNIC

Your time and place on the reserve or private beachfront. One of our experienced guides on horseback will bring a delicious picnic to you. Please speak to the team with regards to the contents of the basket, the differences or about any allergies. Available every day.

DAIRY EXPERIENCE

Experience the life of the dairy cows at the Grass Ridge Dairy farm right next door. Our guide will take you through the pastures and around the farm answering any questions that you may have. Then it’s off to the dairy for a look at how more than 1200 cows are milked daily. Available every day at 14:00. (Minimum 2 persons)

BIRD, FYNBOS AND WETLAND WALK

Take a walk in our large property which is home to over 170 different bird species, with a variety of different environments, such as a private beachfront, two vast stretches of dunes, wetlands, woodlands, river deltas and a variety of Fynbos. There is a dedicated trail for this walk. (Minimum 2 persons)

ADDO ELIPHANT PARK

More than 350 elephants can be seen in this National Park near Port Elizabeth. Have a 2 hour game drive with an experienced guide or try to spot the ‘Big 5’ from your own vehicle.

GAME RESERVES

Guests who want to combine a beach with safari experience should extend their visit to the Eastern Cape with a stay at one of the various Private Game Reserve, all situated close to Addo Elephant National Park.

BUNGY JUMPING – BLOUKRANS BRIDGE

The Bloukrans Bridge is an arch bridge located near Nature’s Valley, Western Cape, South Africa. Constructed between February 1980 and June 1983, the bridge stands at a height of 216m above the Bloukrans River. Its central span is 272m and the bridge is 451m in length in total.

DIVING

South Africa is home to some of the world’s most colourful and most beautiful reefs. Scuba diving in the Eastern Cape is the gateway to a world of indigenous marine life, beauty and colour. Whether you’re an expert diver or a beginner, get up close and personal with a variety of under-water species, and take in the unique sights of these hidden treasures.

4X4

The Baviaans-Kouga 4×4 trail and 2×4 Baviaans Trail Travel Route adds credence to this wilderness region and offers a different perspective to entering the Baviaanskloof, something not viewed or experienced elsewhere . Its a little different and challenging with its ” Fynbos 4×4 route” joining the main R332, Baviaanskloof Road, in the heart of the Baviaans, 2×4 Bakkies with experienced drivers can also do this 2×4 trail route, into the Baviaanskloof as an adventure challenge.

MUSEUMS

Building on the Eastern Cape’s rich history and cultural influences, museums play an important role in preserving artefacts and other objects of historical importance. There are both permanent museums in the region, as well as temporary exhibitions for you to visit on your travels.

SURFING

The world-renowned surfing paradise of Jeffreys Bay is a mere 45 minutes drive from Oyster Bay Lodge. Learn to surf like a professional, grab a bite to eat or just spend a day relaxing at the beach.

TSITSIKAMMA NATIONAL PARK

View the waves breaking on the rocks of this National Park and enjoy the various hiking trails with a walk over the suspension bridge crossing Storms River Mouth. For the not so faint hearted, you can enjoy the magnificent giant ferns and giant trees of Storms River, while gently gliding from tree to tree 30 metres above the Tsitsikamma forest. If you are really not afraid of heights and are looking for a adrenaline boost, experience the highest bungee jump in the world.

WHALE AND DOLPHIN WATCHING – 2-3 HRS

Out of the St Francis Bay we cruise up the coast taking in the beauty of the scenic reserve, sand dunes and beaches along the way. June through to November we experience a high success rate providing close encounters with Southern Right and Humpback Whales who visit our waters on their annual migration south. They can be seen putting on a spectacular show swimming with the numerous pods of dolphin who reside here year-round along with penguins, seals and a variety of other bird and marine life. Trips are 1.5 to 2 hours in length (depending how far we travel to the whales) and can be enjoyed by anyone keen on an outstanding marine experience. Remember your sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, jacket (for cooler conditions) and your own refreshments – picnic baskets and beverages available from our bar and restaurant.
